One of the easiest and most important things to do in the industry is to apply yourself. I’m not only talking about doing your own hard work in your life, acting classes, or jobs that you book, what I am mostly referring to is applying yourself to audition for work online… things that your agent won’t send you out on because they’re independent productions, or a web series, or an informational video. These are important because they are great audition practice, and if you end up booking something, then a great bit of money on the side. I have said it before and I will continue to say it again and again because it is JUST that important. You have to be submitting yourself on Backstage, Actors Access, and any other platform that you possibly can if you want to speed up this process of “making it.” Never forget the best motto: work begets work.
When you are applying for jobs on your own, this gives you at least 2 times the opportunity to book a job, meet new people, and make new relationships with people that you could possibly lend a hand to (or have their hand lent to you) in the future. There is not much more important than who you are connected to in this industry, and having a ton of different friends in different places and all parts of the industry (music, film, web, lighting, sound, etc…) will always help you, and never hurt you, especially if you befriend everyone you possibly can, and are genuine and kind person.
When you know more people in the industry, it is easier to book work, and you always want to give yourself the best opportunities possible, right??? So there you have it then! Audition, then audition, and then audition some more, because in the end, the more you work, the more you will work. Show your agents that you are motivated by booking work on your own and creating great products and they will be more likely to be motivated for you.
