If there is anything I’ve learned from all of the different Q&As, talks with producers, hearing friend’s stories about getting their projects made, or any other info-jam session I’ve had about the industry, it’s that you need to believe in your own projects. When you are trying to get your own project made (or even just auditioning as an actor and trying to get yourself into projects!) you need to believe in your product that you are selling. If you don’t believe in and fully back up your own project 100% then you will never be happy and satisfied with the outcome of it!

I heard a story about a script a guy was trying to sell and I think it is the best representation of this. He wrote a script about someone who buys two non-refundable tickets for himself and his girlfriend to take a wonderful trip together. The tickets are in his name and hers and when she breaks up with him out of nowhere, he is stuck with a fully paid trip that he could either take alone or find someone with the same first and last name as his now ex-girlfriend. It is called “Non Transferable.” It’s a great story, very funny, and super interesting. He shopped it around trying to get it sold and get distribution on it but production companies weren’t taking it because the story “wasn’t believable.”

Well he believed in his project so much that he kept going on it and found himself the funding, producers, actors, and everything. Just as they were about to begin filming, this actual situation happened IN REAL LIFE! It was all over the news and guess who called him… a production company that had told him the idea was too outlandish to be made in the first place. They ate their own words and he accepted their distribution offer. They are making the project a reality right freakin’ now.

This is why you need to believe in your projects and yourself before you can go out and try to sell your projects of yourself. Don’t give up on things that you care about and firmly believe in! Continue the fight and one day, it will all happen. With enough persistence and hard work, anything can happen. It may sound cheesy, but it is completely true!
