Something that has made me laugh whenever I see them, is business cards for actors. In today’s current society, where the internet is so free to use and so readily accessible, it has seemed sort of silly to me that some acting coaches, managers, agents, or even actors themselves insist on having business cards for the actor. It just doesn’t totally make sense to me and it never has. I realized recently why it doesn’t make any sense. So here we go!
Actors need a headshot, resume, and a website. That is really all they need to get started. The headshot and resume are so that people know what your face looks like, your name, what you’ve been in, etc… and the website is so that people can actually see the other headshots, and really view the things that you have been in (why it is important to also have a strong demo reel). But frankly, when you really have those three things in good working order, and completely simplified your website so that it is easy to navigate as well as easy to remember (that’s why I like My Acting Site so much, because your site is LITERALLY just your name), there is no need for business cards.
You will make yourself more memorable if you have a great picture, and a great website. The resume can be built after some good work has been put in to actually book things. But once you have those two things perfected and ready for the world to see, nothing should be holding you back from making yourself known and sharing your name and your profession (WITHOUT the unnecessary use of business cards, save yourself the embarrassment, and save the world some paper, win/win). So get a website in your own name, and make yourself known to the world. Don’t let anything hold you back from having the career you have always dreamed of!
