A career in acting can mean a lot of different things. You may feel like this means a constantly changing routine with new things being thrown into the mix all the time, but there is also a possibility that you feel like you’re stuck doing the same things. Wake up, work out, run lines, go to your audition, go to your class, go home, and the next day things seem the same. I think we have all been in a place where the routine gets boring and we feel like we need to change things up to make it exciting again! There are times when this can occur, and if you feel like you are in a slow spot in your career right this second, do not worry, because there are a ton of things you can change up for a quick fix!
1) Talk to your agents: See if there is anything you can do to enhance your in-room performance at auditions, widen your range so that you are going out for more things, or just general career advice. Tell them that you feel things are slow right now. They may have some great advice for you about this! But remember to be kind and understanding towards them as your agents, because they work hard at their jobs.
2) New Headshots: if auditions have been rolling in slowly you may want to try getting new headshots. Try a new look, if you have always had a “girl next door” look, try a darker photo and see if you get any results with that. Make sure you aren’t putting yourself in a box with your headshot and make sure you have looks that your agent/manager love!
3) Try a new class: Your acting class may be what is unchanging in your world, and that may or may not be a good thing! If you find yourself getting bored in class, not finding your classes as helpful in real world auditions as they used to be, or are just ready for a change, try getting into a new class!
4) Update your website: Sometimes the change you need is to let everyone know about all of the great things you’ve been up to recently! This can come from Facebook status updates, Tweets, Instaram posts, but the best and most exciting way to let people know that you mean business is through a dope update to your My Acting Site website!
