When your auditions aren’t rolling in constantly and consistently, it can feel like there’s no way to stay busy as an actor and an artist. What many people can sometimes forget is that actors are artists and they can make their own work just as any freelance professional. When an actor isn’t currently on a job, they are basically out of work and that is something that can cause any actor to feel a little unstable! There’s nothing wrong with auditions rolling in slowly because it is just a fact of the industry. Casting Directors are always looking for new actors, but there may not be as many projects going at once that call for your type.

The best thing that you can do for yourself and your acting career is to keep creating. Constantly and continuously do things that make you feel like an artist and make you happy to be who you are, and do the things that you are doing. Acting classes are great if you take them, but they are not something that you can wrap a bow around and send off to relatives, friends, and other people to show them your hard work. You want to be creating things that you can show off to whoever may ask you the best question in the world, “What have you been up to lately?” Here are some ideas of things that you can create on, but just remember that these are just examples and the possibilities are endless!

1)            A short film about a day in the life… a day in YOUR life
2)            A drawing a day, where you draw anything and post it on your Instagram
3)            A video of you running up to strangers for a surprise dance party
4)            A painting of any kind
5)            A new twitter account dedicated to funny quotes about food
6)            A music video to a song you really love
7)            A video of you interviewing every actor you meet
8)            A compilation video of your summer
9)            A second of video every day
10)            A selfie every day that you make into a transformation (or lack thereof) video
11)            A monologue a week
12)            A new character every day
13)            Write a paragraph a day about anything you can think of

So there are some fun ideas of things to keep you creative while anything else may be slow. Or things for you to do to keep yourself even busier than you already are if things are all happening for you right now! It’s always a good idea to keep yourself moving especially when things are going well so that you can keep your momentum going!
