With the New Year coming up and resolutions running amok, I thought I would share something fun I do that helps me continue moving forward as an actor even in the toughest of times.
I have an ongoing word document on my computer that has some longterm goals I would like to achieve. I don’t always remember what they are so it is a good thing for me to have them tucked away on my desktop so that I can peek over at them whenever I need some inspiration. I like reading them over and reminding myself why it is that I am doing what I am doing.
Being an actress is about so much more than just doing it as a job. It is about the message, the art, the work that goes into it, and the change you can see come to fruition before your eyes because of something you created. It is about whatever you want it to be, but in order to know what this is for you, you need to start getting the idea, seeing it, seeing if it’s right, if it works for you.
Making goals for yourself is a great way to feel like you have a hand in this crazy business that seems to rely so much on “luck” and “chance.” Because when you make a goal, and it finally does come to fruition, there’s an amazing amount of satisfaction that comes out of that. A feeling of, “I knew, and I was right!” and there’s not really much better feeling than that.
