In this blog I will focus on the subject of modeling like you’ve never seen before, or at least you’d think you’ve never seen it. It’s a sub category of modeling that is so specific that there are fewer agencies to handle this exact type of modeling than there are models for it. This modeling is called “Parts Modeling” and no, I am not talking about car parts. I am talking about body parts.
      There is an entire industry built on the fact that some people have better looking hands, legs, arms, and feet than others, and that these people should be used to promote companies. When a certain celebrity doesn’t have a feature that a director approves of, a parts model would step in and act as that feature for this celebrity, i.e. Megan Fox’s thumbs in the 2019 Suberbowl Motorola ad, where the director did not like Fox’s thumbs and hired a hand model to play her hand. There is always something weird that Hollywood does and this is one of those things.
      If you are a person that has always been told you have great hands, or the prettiest feet, or beautiful arms, then you should seriously consider going into parts modeling. This is a huge opportunity for a side gig and the schedule is just as unpredictable and crazy that of an actor. If your agents also represent models then you already have a “foot in the door.” If they don’t, body parts agencies are friendly and willing to accept applications.
      Body Part Modeling Agencies are usually willing to accept photos online, if they like your pictures then they will request for you to come in and they will look at your body part and decide if you are the right fit for them. If you are looking for another income that is still in the arts and industry, then this is totally something to look into. When you are thinking about applying to different agencies you want to make sure that you have professional photos taken. If you have any friends who are interested in photography and know the basics of Photoshop, this could be a great person to ask.
      When you think about getting photos taken of your feet or hands it may seem kind of funny but you have to think about them as headshots. You are showing these people exactly what you look like and it is a representation of you as an artist. So make them look nice and you will be more likely to hear back from an agency about wanting to represent you! This field is competitive but with some practice, time, and a lot of lotion to keep wrinkles and damage away, you can make it in the body parts modeling world!
