If you aren’t getting as many auditions as you believe you should be there are a ton of things you may start to believe. One of the thoughts that may begin to creep around you is this: ‘”My reps are not doing enough work! If I only had [insert any agent here] my like and auditions would be so much better!!!” and then you go off into the woods and cry a river so that you can take your canoe to Sorry Town. I have to be real here, the time that you should start thinking it’s your agent’s fault you are not going out enough could be spent on at least a million other more productive things. If you did one or two of these more productive things, you would go out more.
Here are some of those things you can be doing to proactively get yourself out on more auditions before you think that the problem is your agents:

-Find a casting director workshop that you would normally audition for and take it! Introduce yourself to casting directors who cast projects you think you should be involved in and make them know your name.
-Get new headshots and do looks that you don’t currently have. If you don’t have emo/runaway/cheerleader/late night host headshots, then get a friend and take some photos and then upload them onto your CF profile, and anywhere else your agent uses to get you out on auditions.
-Do some standup comedy. Get yourself out there into the community of people you share the same interests as. Meet people, do as many shows as possible, and get yourself some notoriety.
-Self-submit to theatre and do a play. Rehearse your booty off and kick some major butt in this play. Even though Los Angeles isn’t as great for theatre as many other cities, there are still some amazing opportunities waiting to be had.
-Film your own content. Come up with three ideas that you love and are very good in and film them. Put them online and share with your friends and their friends and everyone you know.

So those are just a couple of things I can think of off the top of my head that you can and should be doing when times are slower. If you aren’t getting as many auditions as you think you should take it as a sign that you FINALLY have some more time to work on yourself and your craft! How exciting! Put in 25, 30, even 40 extra hours that week on your skill and tools as an actor. Do this, and then get back to me. If you still don’t have as many auditions as you’d like, talk to your representatives about this and see if there is a way to fix it amicably. But first, get yourself into gear and get yourself working on your OWN SELF!
