When you are creating your website, or even updating your existing site, you want to make sure that you have all of your ducks in a row. Having great headshots, a resume, photos other than headshots, and a good “Contact Me” page that has your social media connected to it. Something that I have noticed quite a few people have questions on is the Biography that will be on your website. A bio is something that is included in every website that we offer, of course, it is optional to have one, but when you take a look at professional actor’s websites you will notice that they almost always have a biography. This is because people want to know who you are and what your backstory is. They are buying YOU as an actor and a professional, not always just your art form. Here are some tips on writing the best bio possible for your website.

1)            Start with the basics. Make sure people know where you were born, where you lived for most of your life, and when you came to Los Angeles to make a name for yourself. If you have a particularly inspiring story, with a lot of obstacles that you overcame people want to know these things because it can inspire them to do the same type of transition.
2)            Tell people about your struggles. If you had something big to overcome (working three jobs while balancing auditions, raising a family, etc…) then briefly describe them to your audience. Remember that people want to be inspired! They are reading your bio for several reasons but one of them may be to get advice from you!
3)            Touch upon the subject of your first job. Tell your readers what your very first, or most memorable early on job was. Explain a little bit of how it impacted you and if it reassured you that the right choice was made. Tell the people looking at your website that you booked a commercial and your career took off from there, or that you fell in love with the art form of acting from doing high school plays.
4)            Tell them what you’re doing now. Letting your fans know all about your past is great, but telling them all about your current jobs, agent, manager, or anything else you are doing in the industry is even better. This promotes you as an actor and makes people interested in looking out for you in any up and coming projects!

Making sure you have great information on your website is the best way to attract people to it. Part of that is having a great bio that is well written, with feeling of your own and displays who you are. Your target audience wants to get to know YOU as an actor, so make sure you show them! Always remember that if you need help making any changes to your website, or need advice on where to place something or how it looks, we are always here to help you out!
