Keeping your Instagram strong and up to date is a very important part about being an actor in the industry. We all know that social media is important. What some people do not realize is the large extent to which social media can contribute to your career. People book jobs left and right from YouTube, Instagram, Twitter, Facebook, and everything else online. There’s no reason that you can’t also be doing that same thing! So that’s why making sure your Instagram is on point is so important. If you are like me in any way, shape, or form, social media doesn’t always come super naturally to you and it can be hard to create an entire social media following out of nothing; seems daunting. But I am going to give you some extremely useful tips and pointers to help set you up in the right direction! You are going to make yourself a master of social media, and it won’t take long at all!

1)             Start taking pictures and editing them nicely. This seems obvious, but a lot of people forget to take pictures of very important things that are great promotion for you as an artist on social media. If you are on set, visiting SAG, at a meeting with an agent or manager, or anything else that has to do with you being an actor and n the industry living your dreams (even attending a union strike counts, literally anything) then you should be taking a photo of it and editing it to your liking so that you can post it on Instagram later.
2)             Come up with witty captions that grab people’s attention. You want to make your life seem as fast paced and interesting as possible on your social media platform because that is how Instagram works. It is fast and moves on from one thing to another in the blink of an eye, so it is important that you are captioning your photos in a way that grabs people’s attention and makes them immediately interested in what it is you have to show them.
3)             Have your name on Instagram be your name in real life. Similarly to your website, your Instagram should be your actual name so that people can find you quickly and easily. It also helps make your specific name more memorable to them and if a casting director decided to follow you, then guess what, they need to do that much less work to find out what your name is to bring you in for an audition! If your name isn’t available there are easy fixes such as adding “official” at the end or other simple things like that.
4)             Ask your fellow actors what their Instagrams are when you meet them on set and follow them! Almost always they will follow you back, and it is important that you keep making friends along the way in your journey to achieving everything you’ve ever hoped for. Following someone on Instagram could go a long way in helping you achieve that! And if you are following rule #1 I have set above, then you should also be tagging them in the photos you take with them!
5)             Get an app to help you gain followers. There are certain applications that you have to be cautious about because they will post to your Instagram account without you having allowed them to, just make sure you are reading the reviews before downloading it. But applications that are good and trustworthy really do come in handy and they make building up your Instagram following more of a game and less of a hassle!
