In the world of Hollywood, especially when it comes to acting, one of the most important things you can have as a person is connections. When you are well connected in the industry it makes everything in your life easier. We all have that one artist friend whose mom or dad is someone or someone who knows someone, and this friend has gotten a job because of it. If you are lucky enough to be that person, that friend everyone in envious of, then you probably already know the importance of being connected, and don’t need advice on how to become even more so. Go live with your good luck; leave the rest of us with something to work with!
Anywhere you go, any job that you work on, anyone you meet could be a connection. You never know when you’re going to meet the person that could change your career for the better so to say that the boom operator isn’t as important as your makeup artist, isn’t always necessarily true. Whenever I am on set I take it as the biggest opportunity I can to get connected with the people around me. Learn their names, their faces, what they enjoy doing outside of the industry, so that later on when I see them again, we have things to talk about, and a common liking for each other.
Always make sure that you give yourself ample opportunity to have the best success you can, this means to build as many bridges as possible with all of the people you meet. You never know where one person can lead you!
