One of the most important things about Hollywood is staying connected. I’ve already said my piece about making the business connections in the industry but something that is equally as important in this is making friends in the industry. If you are ever interested in working on your own projects, creating your own things, or being able to have any creative liberties in the industry, you need friends. You need them to help you out in making your goods, and you need them in helping you promote. Of course, there are a lot of emotional, entertaining, and exciting benefits to having a lot of friends, but what I am specifically talking about here is a career benefitting friendship.
Some of my favorite people have no idea how to use a camera, or have little to no understanding of the auditioning process. That’s fine, but I just know that I wont be going to them for advice on how to get my next short up on its feet, or to run lines with for my second call back for the producers. I would rather do this type of thing with friends that actually have a solid understanding of the industry and the people in it. I enjoy having out with tons of different people, but especially enjoy having the photographer, film, or writer friend that I can call when I need that specific type of inspiration. Having friends who are also in the industry can be helpful, and exciting. They can offer you a lot more in your art sometimes than those who aren’t aware of what it is exactly that you do. Make friends, enjoy your career.
