Recently, I have been pondering the importance of networking as an actor. I have wanted to know why it is important for a long time as meeting new people, personally, is not something that I love to do. I have wondered why I need to go out and meet people that I could work with, when I am just going to be auditioning for roles that my agents send me out on regardless.

I wondered all of this until I actually did some networking for the first time. In my most recent acting class I met a girl who saw one of my music videos I did with a friend (another use of my networking skills, is that I released a music video with a new friend that I met. Now we are working on projects together! Link at the end of this blog post!) and told me that she was interested in working with me.

My rule of thumb has always been the busier you are the more busy you will become. So, by that “natural law” of course, when I started working with my other new friend, I started to get more auditions than ever, and barely had time to work with my friend on the projects; a very, very good thing. Of course we actually got the project done, which is amazing, and it has been getting some rave reviews, which is very exciting.

All in all, I have realized that it is important as an actor to network because you get opportunities you otherwise may not have gotten, as well as getting the chance to work on interesting, or maybe just super fun projects. Overall if you are like me, and dislike meeting a gaggle of new people, I would advise you to just go out and try it because you may get some results that will be a pleasant surprise!
