I have gotten quite a few auditions for stage plays lately from my agents. Strange, I know, as I live in Los Angles and this is the city for TV and Film, but I take what I get! I did a lot of theatre during my years in school so I expected that they would be pretty similar to that. Little did I know that stage plays require you have your own monologue from a published play to perform for them! In school, I was accustomed to knowing what play I was auditioning for and doing a piece from that, but in the real work of theatre, it isn’t always that way. So if you find yourself in a situation where you need a monologue fast, I can help you out! Here are some of the best places to find a monologue for your audition:

-Backstage: known for getting actors auditions, Backstage has a very pleasantly surprising inventory of auditions. You can search easily on their site through a plethora of monologues. I have found that they usually have better dramatic and classical monologues. So if you are looking for a comedic or contemporary piece, I wouldn’t look here first.
-Actorama: they have a very easy search engine and have a lot of content for free. Without needing a membership, you can find a monologue here which is great! They offer some published plays, as well as monologues from films.
-Monologueblogger: An entire website dedicated to monologues. They have very interesting news and feedback on monologues that they use on their site including the top rated monologues for colleges.
-Samuel French: if you have time to go to a bookstore and look through different plays, this place is the BEST in Los Angeles, hands down. They have a huge selection of works and a great staff to help you find exactly what you are looking for.

When it comes to monologues, it is best to find one from a published play to use for your audition. Make sure you do your research on the character and the play before you perform it! This will give you a lot more insight into how the piece should be performed. Finding the perfect monologue can be difficult– almost impossible, but when you find one that you love, it can last you a very long time.
