This week in my improv class we finally started character work. This was extremely exciting to me because we have yet to work on things that I think will really serve us in our performances for improvisation. The teacher, in fact, has just said for the first time since we started the classes that we will be dealing with critical things next week, and that will be the first class we really should not miss.
Throughout this whole thing, I have been trying my best to keep an open mind about the subject of improvisation, and assume the point of view that I have new things to learn from these people at UCB, because who knows? Maybe I have a ton of things to actually learn from them! You never know what type of great advice, or funny idea one could offer. But thus far, it has been nothing more than playing some improv games along with not really “learning” anything particularly.
I am excited for the next class thing coming week because I am ready for the critical things. I am very interested in learning why it is that UCB is particular in the way that they do improvisation, which is what I have a feeling we will be learning in this next class. And so the journey continues…

Until next week!
