As an actor, I find that drama comes to me very naturally. This isn’t to say that drama with friends or family comes naturally, no. What I mean by this is that dramatizing situations, places, memories, and people, is something that I find myself doing quite frequently. I enjoy making things more interesting and fun than they actually are. This isn’t a bad thing, its just that sometimes I get myself into trouble from creating too much “fun”, and that’s where I find writing comes into handy.
When I find myself creating a mountain out of a mole hill so to speak, I like to come up with unrelated stories that I can invent on and make into something more than they actually are. This is better for me to do because it is not only productive, but also doesn’t create weird situations with people that I actually know! When I write, I create new people and new situations and that is much more fun than dwelling on the old ones in the past!
If you as an actor find yourself over creating on situations in your own life, I would try your hand at writing. It is fun, and quite the accomplishment when you create something of your own.
