As an actor, it is your job to make sure you are available to do your job. This means that you have the time to go on auditions, callbacks, and any and all jobs you book. It also means that you are able to be on call for your agent and/or manager to be able to get ahold of you in case any last minute auditions, or the like, come up.

It’s funny because a lot of actors don’t think that all of these things are a part of their job. But when your agent or manager tells you that they would like you to start taking a certain acting class, your answer had better be that you are on it, and not, “I don’t have any free nights in my week!” It is your job to make sure you are doing everything you can to further invest in your career.

So all in all, make sure you are keeping your schedule open to the possibilities of a last-minute audition, a new class, or going out of town to shoot a new job for whatever length of time. Constantly be on the lookout for missed phone calls and emails from your representation as well. It is not professional of ou to miss communication from the people who are working hard to get you auditions and jobs, so making sure you are always on the same page as they are is a great way to show them how much you want to make your career happen!
