I recently switched from one acting class to another. It was a tough transition to make because I had been in my one acting class for quite a while, and I felt very comfortable and happy there. Let me repeat that– I realized I was COMFORTABLE in my class. I was having a hard time getting better and better because I had stopped challenging myself and had started feeling good and comfortable and stagnant.

There is a difference between feeling safe and feeling comfortable in an acting class. You need to feel safe because you need to be able to make mistakes and try new things. If you can’t go out on a limb in your acting class and do something that makes you look like an idiot, there is no place you can do that, and it puts you at risk in your auditions.

When you find yourself feeling comfortable in your acting class, it may be time to make a change. You want to be in the class that will continue your expansion and amelioration as an artist and an actor. The class that makes you comfortable and happy could just be the thing holding you back from your next big leap as an actor. Allow yourself to explore your opportunity and try something new!
