Recently I decided with a friend that it would be fun to make a web series, so we sat down, had a super fun conversation one day, and out that conversation came eight super short episodes that we decided to shoot. We tried the first time with a DP who was amazing, but the footage just wasn’t what we wanted. We were left with no director, no DP, and no camera. Not the best way to make a show… But we were determined to make this thing because we both thought it was too funny not to! So, here are the things we did to film our own show:

1)      We filmed on an iPhone: this is something that I had always heard people say, “You can make any project you want! Just use your iPhone!” But I never believed I would be doing this, Turns out, I am, and it is really working out well! We bought a stabilizer (gimbal) for under $300 and it looks amazing.
2)      We used our friends for help: We asked everyone what they had. One friend had some cool lights, we are using those, and another friend knew how to hold a boom so she came onto the project. These are just favors that we are pulling in. Not paid.
3)      We organized the heck out of it! We spent one whole day lackadaisically with storyboards that weren’t completely finished, and a team that didn’t know the schedule. After that, we decided to stop the nonsense and keep a schedule and way more strict storyboards to follow. We wasted far less time doing this.

     That’s pretty much it. We called in favors and used what we had, and we have been filming this web series for the past couple of weeks on zero budget and having an amazing and very fun time! We are doing this for fun, and to keep us busy and producing content, and that is exactly what it is doing. There is nothing I love more than creating art, and this is allowing me to do that and be a part of that!

     So pull out your iPhone and make whatever your heart desires! There is nothing more fun than getting together with a group of friends and creating something that you all believe in!
