Alright guys,

I have been asked a few times recently: “How can I make my website appear higher on Google?” and I decided I would answer that question so you could all benefit from it.

For starters, Google works by analyzing the information contained on a site. It does this specifically by analyzing the text on the site. It then uses this information for its searches. This means if you have little-to-no typed information on your site, Google will have a harder time finding it and therefore, it will appear lower on their standings. One of the reasons your iMDb page might come up first is because it has a good amount of text on you whereas your site may have very little.

Here are a couple suggestions on how to improve your Google standings:

On your Homepage, add information about what you are doing currently in your career as often as you can. This is something each of our clients should start doing if they aren’t already. A simple way to do this is to create an Activities Stream (e.g when you book something, sign with a new agency/manager, attend a benefit, etc, add some information about what you did and when.) As you continue to move in your career, add in your achievements on top of your older ones (the more often this is done, the better the results will be with your Google standing). Not only does this Activities Stream fill people in on what you are doing, but it also supplies Google with more text to analyze.

On your Biography page, really iron out how it is you came into acting. As it is a biography, it should explain how you came into the acting profession, how long you have been doing it, what you like about it, what you want to achieve by doing it, etc… There are a couple things you are trying to do here: you want to give curious readers a good story about yourself and what you have overcome as well as give Google plenty of words and phrases to separate your site from others.

If you’re on social media, link your site to it (add your website URL to your Facebook, Twitter, iMDb, YouTube, Emails, etc). This is called “back linking” and it is very useful for Google to recognize an active site, as it is linked to other sites which are commonly viewed.

If you follow what has been laid out above, your site will be better recognized by Google and there is a strong likelihood it will increase your standing. I have personally checked many of our clients sites and I have noticed a dramatic difference in Google standing when the above was applied. Try it out and see if anything changes! Let us know!
