We all know that the number of self-tape auditions has continues to go up and up in recent months and since the past two years or so. Digital is totally in vogue and casting directors are even casting directly from tape these days. When you get a self-tape audition, one of the most important things you can possibly focus on is the deadline. This is the best way to make a great impression on the casting director when there isn’t much more you can do to impress them (except for your amazing acting abilities!) because you are not meeting them in person.
Self-tape auditions give actors a funny disadvantage that can also be looked at as more of an advantage as well. It takes you out of the casting directors room as a person and puts you in there as an actor ONLY. One that they may or may not, but probably do not, have a previous relationship with and knowledge of. They see your tape and they cannot base their opinion off of anything other than your performance.
This is exactly why you should be turning your self-tapes in before the deadline they give you. It gives the casting director a sense that you are professional, that you care to show them your work, and that you are eager to get the job and their attention. Turning your self-tapes in on or a little bit before the deadline will make it so that they see your professionalism and appreciate it. A lot of websites and casting directors will not allow you to turn in your audition past the deadline, so it is important that you do your diligent work whenever you get a new self-tape audition.
Show your agents, manager, and casting director that you are serious about you work and eager to book jobs, and something good is bound to come your way!
