For a long time, I looked down on things such as actors access and backstage. Places where actors who did not have agents, or that I am learning now did have agents, would submit themselves to audition for what I thought would be low standard, or lower quality productions. I am learning now that I am very wrong and that I should never judge a book by what I think the cover may look like, because I probably have a skewed vision of the cover.

I recently, very, very, recently signed up for an account at Backstage and it is the best decision I have made in a while. I get auditions from my agents pretty frequently but there are some times when it just so happens that I do not have any auditions for up to three days. This is when the magic that is backstage and self-submission comes into play. I can apply for auditions online for things that my agents may not send me out on, and these extra auditions take up the remainder of my time.

I find I am happiest when I am constantly doing something. So to always have an audition to work on is a very good thing for me. I love the constant motion of always having something to do next and I find I can really achieve this with online resources for actors such as Backstage. I would suggest that if you haven’t already signed up for an account, you try it for a month. Fun projects and an abundance of auditions are in your future.
